AGM elections & consultation

Dear Members, dear friends.

Our monthly brunch is being held on the 28th August. We will combine this brunch with our annual AGM.

The Brunch/AGM will be held at:

The Multicultural Hub

80 Harbour Esplanade, Docklands
(near the corner of Bourke Street and Harbour Esplanade – look for the giant rabbit sculpture)

The Caribbean Association of Victoria committee must officially stand down and be re-elected.

The vote will be for the entire existing committee body, unless members specifically request otherwise.

In the absence of a successful election process, all positions will be returned automatically.

All existing committee positions are currently standing again unopposed, and additional nominations need to be accepted by nominees and submitted by 26th August, to CaribVic@live.com.

Only members are eligible to vote, and votes will be determined by a show of hands.

CARIBVIC OFFICER ROLES for the 2-year term July 2011 to June 2013

 Name Role Description
Orlando Gibson  President The President serves as the club’s chief executive officer. They are responsible for the general supervision and operation of the club, and basically assist all the other officers and committee members on the team to serve the Community well and attend 2-hour Meetings scheduled on the last Monday of the month.(Orlando currenty takes care of the important publishing, Facebook and maintenance of the CaribVic web-site)
Osmond Hylton Vice President  The Vice President (Public Officer) is responsible for Grant Applications, planning successful club meetings, and working with each committee member to ensure they achieve their goals.
Joe Singh  Treasurer  The Treasurer is responsible for everything related to our club funds. To prepare a budget, maintain our bank accounts, handle reimbursement for club-related expenses, and manage the process of collecting dues. To attend 2-hour Meetings scheduled on the last Monday of the month and responsible for organising our Annual General Meeting.
 Secretary The Secretary is responsible for the entire club’s record-keeping.  The up-keep of our Membership Contact details, the Public Officer’s information, assists the Events Coordinator, the one who takes the notes and distributes the Minutes of our Meetings and Agendas to all Committee Members, as well as filing copies of all Correspondence to and from the Executive Committee, and to attend 2-hour Meetings scheduled on the last Monday of the month.
Membership Officer  The Membership officer is responsible for directing an active membership-building programme to continually bring new members into the club, and to attend 2-hour Meetings scheduled on the last Monday of the month.
 Events Coordinator  The Events Coordinator (Public Relations) is responsible for promoting the club to potential members, and making sure that members know about current activities and events through the CaribVic Facebook, our ‘Wha Happenin’ Periodical e-Newsletter, organising the Annual Cultural Day Programme, and to attend 2-hour Meetings scheduled on the last Monday of the month.
Youth Officer The Youth Officer is responsible for directing an active youth membership-building programme to continually bring new youth members into the club, and engaging them. The youth officer is responsible for ensuring that the youth voice is heard and catered for. Officer will attend 2-hour Meetings scheduled on the last Monday of the month
Committee Members Assist the Officers and offer the Committee their expertise and new ideas for the future development of CaribVic.To attend 2-hour Meetings scheduled on the last Monday of the month and to encourage Community members to support and attend planned events.
 

All positions are subject for re-election and currently stand unopposed.

We would also like take this opportunity to get your opinions and views on the organisation, and how the association can best serve the community.

We would appreciate your support in conducting this democratic process as part of our monthly brunch.

Monthly Brunch & AGM 2011

This is an open invitation to all CaribVic members and members of the community to join us for our monthly brunch and AGM.

It would provide us with the opportunity to meet up in an informal environment, and have a general chat.

The subject of this meeting is to determine the direction in which you would like this organisation to go.

It also will provide newer members to the Victorian community to meet people and make friends.

Fire in Babylon opening night

The ACMI cinema in Federation Square is hosting a special opening night screening of the hit documentary Fire in Babylon on Friday 26th August.

CaribVic members will be attending would like to ensure that you too do not miss this opportunity.

There are two types of tickets. Tickets can either be purchased for:

A/ 6.45pm Q&A with Michael Holding, followed by 9pm screening & his intro

Or

B/ Just the 9pm screening and intro

If you would like to purchase tickets, you can do so from the ACMI booking office.

People should make sure they select the 6.45pm/$25 option when booking, if they also want the Q&A.

Youth Arts Festival

You are cordially invited to an exclusive arts festival be held at the Multicultural Hub in the Dockland.

Included in the event will be:

Maxine Clarke, Poet

Tony Phillips, Artist

Lloyd Watson-Jones, Musician

The event is kindly being filmed for CaribVic by Sean Warren (so remember to fix your weave)

Tickets are $10 for members and $20 for non members.

Memberships run for the period of our financial year, 01 July to 30 June, so now would be the ideal time to get your membership for this year, and enjoy the benefits of membership for the entire year.

You are encouraged to obtain your memberships by direct deposit to the CaribVic bank account BSB 033152 A/c No: 314587. Please use your name and the reference ‘Membership’ when transferring funds, OR you can sign up for membership at the door.

The Youth Arts Festival seats are limited to 65 and half have been already sold forcing a change of venue, so please email your interest by return, and how many seats you require.

Tickets will be reserved on a first come first served basis.

You may obtain tickets by direct deposit to the CaribVic bank account BSB 033152 A/c No: 314587. Please use your name and the reference ‘YAF’ when transferring funds, before the 11th August.

You can pay for tickets at the door, but please express your interest to attend and the number of tickets that you require by sending an email to CaribVic@live.com, as tickets are limited.
