The show where the customer is NOT always right

Get your complaints written and receipts ready for refund because this Fringe, two average checkout chics present to you the comedy show I AM SUPERMARKET. Ballarat Acting Graduates from Federation University Arts Academy, Jacqui Essing and Casey Binks, bring to you the quirky supermarket world from the other side of the conveyor belt – a place where the checkout chic is always right. Be prepared… the smiling checkout chic is not so nice anymore.

I AM SUPERMARKET featuring Jacqui Essing and Casey Binks, plays as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival at the Metanoia Mechanics Institute, Studio, Brunswick from 14th September.

Three years of whinging about working in a supermarket has fuelled Essing to put her angers, amusements and annoyances to paper, with the product being I AM SUPERMARKET.

When a stereotypical supermarket worker is instructed to say “good thanks”,“my pleasure”, “have a lovely day” and smile on repeat, one would assume that the any person would go insane… and one would be absolutely, positively correct with those assumptions! I AM SUPERMARKET proves to you that the checkout chic is in fact a human too (wow, how shocking is that?!), and not the robot who you often ignore when doing the grocery shopping.

From the rude customer on their phone, to the not-so-clever shoplifters, from the customer who needs to shower, to the child who cracks a tantrum, I AM SUPERMARKET will re-introduce you to all of the stereotypes you love to hate when trying to get through the weekly shop.

Caricatures, musical outbursts and extreme dramtisations for comedic-effects aside, I AM SUPERMARKET is the most honest version of a supermarket you will ever experience… and hopefully will never experience again!
