2017 Harmony Cup – Sunday April 2

Sunday April 2, 2017

Royal Park North, Park St, Parkville

FREE EVENT

The AFL International Harmony Cup features teams drawn from Melbourne’s many communities. The aim of the event is twofold:

1. to celebrate Melbourne’s ethnic diversity and harmony, and

2. use the power of sport to break down cultural and ethnic barriers. We may come from many different backgrounds but we are all Australians.

The Harmony Cup is an official Harmony Day (Australian Government) event.

In 2017 the Harmony Cup will be held on Sunday 2 April at Royal Park North, Park Street, Parkville (near the zoo). Next year will be the 10th edition of the event. Entry is free and it’s a great day out for the whole family, with lots of footy, food and entertainment.

AFL International is hoping to have over 50 countries represented on the day, with people from each community wearing their footy jumper. It will be a United Nations of footy and will look amazing! They have created these jumpers for Caribbean countries (so far!):

Jumpers are $70 each and you can choose your size and what number you would like on the back. Jumpers can be purchased here.

Let’s set a new World Record for the most number of individual national footy jumpers, so order your jumper and join us at the 2017 Harmony Cup in Melbourne!

Youth Basketball Initiative

Dear CaribVic Families and Friends,

At our AGM yesterday, we mentioned our wanting to be involved in community Youth Sport.

We are seeking interest and support in the development of a CaribVic basketball team for children up to the age of 15 years and/or youth between the ages of 15 and 24 years.

Our goal in the first instance is to ascertain interest from both boys and girls in these age brackets before organising a team/teams. Depending on the feedback we receive we will then be able to register to play at the most convenient venue (MSAC, Boorondara Sporting Complex etc) on a day and at a time that works for the majority of our newly recruited players depending on their location and availability.

Basketball is a great sport, beneficial for all especially children and youth. It improves social skills by encouraging team work, promoting good sportsmanship, developing communication skills and personal responsibility. Basketball also promotes physical fitness and being active, alleviates stress and contributes to a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, it helps enhance confidence, strengthens ties to the community and promotes the development of friendships. By developing a CaribVic basketball team/teams for children and/or youth we hope to achieve these benefits for participants while simultaneously, taking pride and representing our culture and developing community relationships. We see this as a great opportunity to engage the children and youth of the CaribVic community. Furthermore, we hope to promote the CaribVic association and facilitate networking and communication with other organisations as well as build partnerships.

If anyone has any ideas, wishes to participate, is interested in coaching or helping and/or has contacts with regards to sponsorship or donation, please send us an email.

All CaribVic members and their friends alike are more than welcome to join in the fun.
