The Caribbean Association of Victoria is delighted to announce that two committee members and one general community member will represent our interests at the Australian Association for Caribbean Studies Biennial Conference this week.
Karina Smith of Victoria University, CaribVic’s Patricia Thomas and Caryn Rae Adams of La Trobe University are proud to participate in the Conference which will be held from the 16th-18th February, 2011 in Newcastle, NSW.
CaribVic committee member Patricia will address the conference on the topic of ‘Taking our place – in the Community of Victoria’. A topic that will be of great interest to us all, and which she will present to the community at a later date.
CaribVic committee member Karina Smith will speak on ‘Violence Prevention in Downtown Kingston: Sistren’s socio-drama work in Hannah Town and Rockfort communities’
Caryn Rae Adams will speak on ‘Silence, Shameful Secrets and Sexual Violence: Trauma and Exile in Shani Mootoo’s Cereus Blooms at Night’: Gender, Embodiment and Agency’
The theme for the conference is ‘Caribbean Narratives of Race, Place and Migration’.
